Blast From The Past: Jelly Shoes
We all have to agree that fashion is always evolving. We say that everything is already invented and today's fashion is a new version of something that happened in the past. This is a new section on the blog called " Blast From The Past"; where we'll talk about a piece or trend that emerged in the past and has been reinvented in the present.
The "jelly shoes" were very popular in the 80's and although its exact origin is unknown, they were introduced to the American market in 1983 by an American businessman who traveld to Brazil and noticed how all women wore this type of rubberized footwear, then he decided to import them to the United States; Bloomingdale's was de first department store who bought the item and made them an iconic piece of the decade. I believe everyone had a pair of these sandals while we were kids, right? or have you forgot about Xuxa, the brazilian tv show in the 90's ? Super -known for her collection of multi-colored jelly sandals with glitter .
Today these shoes are back, the plastic material have been re-used with different silhouettes, either heels or flat sandals for an adult and modern woman. Styling tip: Don't wear them on a hot day! Your feet will sweat and the contact with the plastic will cause a blister. They are perfect for a day at the beach or by the pool.
What do you think... would like use these items from the past in the present time or better if they stay in a box from the 80's collecting dust? I want to riead your thoughts!
